This series was inspired by a vivid dream, where all of the colors and images were so clear, it was as if I had actually lived it. I had a fresh image of finding these pods across the world, from ocean floors, deserts and mountain tops. It was a world that bloomed from the intersection of human and plant biology.
In this world, humans matured underground. Born every nine years as they matured, a root would grow from the pod to the surface of the earth where a plant would sprout. Tentacles grew along the root, absorbing nutrients from the dirt, providing primary nutrients to the developing fetus. As the years went by and the fetus grew older, the pod would push its way up through the earth breaking the surface. Once above the surface, the being hatched from the pod.
These installations put a spotlight on an “extinct” human species and in turn, a reflection of our existence now in relation to the planet.
