BOOK SCULPTURES

image144

Complexity, intriguing, mesmerizing, these are a few words that for me, describe an insect. The way they move, what they do for survival and their capability of going through metamorphosis, catches my attention. They are small complex organisms that I find myself more and more interested in as I explore their world.  Over many years of visiting my grandmother in Michoacan, Mexico  I always found a particular interest in them.

Due to their size they go unnoticed and many are on the verge of extinction. In this body of work, I aim to bring awareness to this micro world to amplify that without them, humans would not exist.  I choose to use techniques from book binding to create kinetic boxes in efforts to mimic sacred geometric patterns from nature. The intricacy of my projects stem from the idea and symbolizes the complexity of the insect organisms.
